His grin grew even bigger. “Because I want us to start building a future. A house, maybe a nice car, kids someday. But I need to save aggressively for that, and I can’t if I keep splitting expenses. If you take care of the daily costs, I can put my entire paycheck into savings. For us.”
I stared at him, trying to absorb what he’d just said. “Jake… I already manage the cooking, cleaning, errands—”
“Because you’re good at it,” he cut in, shrugging. “And you said you didn’t mind.”
“That’s not the point,” I replied tightly. “You’re asking me to shoulder everything—money and chores. How is that even remotely fair?”
His expression tightened before the smirk returned. “It is fair. It’s smart. This is how we invest in our future.”
