My name jumped out at me.
I read one line. Then read it again.
“And her savings,” Ethan said gently.
“It’s not a mansion or anything, but it’s something. Enough to matter. Enough to change things.”
I stared at him.
“I barely knew her,” I said.
“Why me?”
“She knew what she was doing,” he said. “She met with a lawyer. Gave your name.
Said you were the only one who’d treated her with real respect in a long time. She didn’t want her kids fighting over it.”
I let out a shaky breath.
“Come here,” I said.
The three of them came in and climbed onto the couch, crowding around me and the crinkled letter.
“This is Ethan,” I said.
