I told them what they had shown me.
I turned to Rachel last.
I gave her a deed to a house. A trust for Lena. Security she’d never had.
She cried. I held her.
I paid for dinner. I left.
Today, my life is quieter than ever. Rachel and Lena live in their home. I visit often. I still work on engines. I still drive my old truck.
But now, when I look in the mirror, I don’t see the extra sibling anymore.
