1. The Curious Case of the Locked Door
It all began on a crisp Saturday morning. I had noticed my young neighbor, Ethan, acting unusually. The small front door to his home remained locked all morning, and no matter who knocked or called out a greeting, he didn’t respond. His usually cheerful demeanor was replaced with a cautious silence.
Being someone who grew up in the neighborhood, I had known Ethan and his family for years. He was bright, imaginative, and remarkably independent for his age. But that day, there was something different — a tangible tension that even a passerby could sense.
At first, I thought perhaps he was just engrossed in some game or personal activity. But as minutes turned into an hour, the silence felt heavier, and curiosity soon mingled with concern.
2. Trying to Reach Him
Like any concerned neighbor, I knocked on the door several times and called out his name. Still, no response. A few others in the neighborhood tried as well, including his older sister who had been away at a friend’s house. Nothing worked.
